Hiking, bird-and butterflywatching, swimming, fishing and primarily relaxing. As well as enjoying French culture and art and French cuisine.
Around Domaine Moulin des Vernes there are several hiking paths which cover many kilometres in unspoilt nature. The famous road to Santiago de Compostella via Vezelay almost passes our doorstep.
For mountain bike lovers the Morvan is an Eldorado. Moreover there is the possibility of rafting and canoeing close by on one of the wild rivers of the Morvan.
Children will love playing in the water of the lake on a raft, a surfboard or in a rowing boat. The lake contains a lot of fish, so people who love fishing can do so to their heart’s content.
There are also some large lakes at a distance of no more than a couple of kilometres which are ideal for fishing too.
In the area are several old French cities like Chateau Chinon, Beaune, Vezelay, Avallon and Autun.
Vezelay with its impressive basilica where Richard Lionheart gathered his troops to go to the Holy Land and which for many pilgrims is the starting place for their journey to Santiago and the city of Beaune with its famous Hotel de Dieu are worth visiting.
Autun has many Roman remains like its amphitheatre (Augustodunum in Roman times) and close by is the archeologically interesting site of Bibracte, remains of an old Celtic/Roman army site. In Bibracte’s museum there are guided tours.
The Parc Naturel Regional has an extraordinary riches in flora and fauna, ideal for nature lovers.
In the Parc there are several lakes, the largest ones being the Lac de Panneciere and the Lac des Settons. On the latter there is a Base Nautique where one can hire sailing boats, surfboards, rowing boats or water scooters. But one can also go for a tour of the lake on a round-trip boat or enjoy one of the many restaurants. Unlike the Lac des Settons, the Lac de Panneciere is not touristy at all as it serves a purpose in regulating water to prevent Paris from flooding.
The quality of the swimming water is good and the water is very clear.
Should rain stop you from going out, then there are a dvd player and games and books in your holiday house.
